This talk examines how future-oriented meanings are discursively constructed in contemporary Chinese-language media through narratives of scientific and technological development. Focusing on two television documentaries broadcast by China Central Television (CCTV), it adopts a discourse-analytical approach and draws on research on futurity and sociotechnical imaginaries to investigate how specific linguistic resources contribute to framing technological futures and representing scientific and technological innovation in relation to social progress, national development, and shared visions of the future. The talk also introduces some preliminary considerations from an ongoing research project on the representation of humanoid robots across different audiovisual genres in Chinese media.
